I think what made the violent reaction is your title for each team..
look at what you named each team at the first round

you named them TEAM 1,2,3,4
after that round
you called the losers in that round as LOSER 1 and 2 and 3
which made everyone think that the LOSER in the ROUND ROBIN is still included..
even I was blanked with the first impression i had..

It has an effect. it determines who will be into the semi finals and their  seeding/rank.
