RubyEastern Samar starts to feel Ruby's rain, winds; evacuations continue.
A satellite photo taken and released by EUMETSAT on Friday, December 5, shows Typhoon Ruby (Hagupit) closing in on Samar Island. Eastern Samar started to experience heavy rains and strong winds from Ruby Saturday morning, even as the government continued evacuation efforts for thousands of people. Many also sought shelter in churches, schools and makeshift facilities.

(Updated 2:50 p.m.) Typhoon Ruby may make landfall over the Philippines at least five times between Sunday and Monday, state weather agency PAGASA's Visayas office said Saturday.
PAGASA Visayas head Oscar Tabada said Ruby may make landfall over Samar, Masbate, Sibuyan Island and Romblon.
The PAGASA main office verified the report, saying that as of 11 a.m., Ruby is projected to make landfall over those areas.
In a Facebook post, the Cebu provincial government quoted Tabada as saying the landfalls include:
- Samar: Sunday at 2 to 4 a.m.
- Masbate: Sunday 2 to 4 p.m.
- Sibuyan Island: 8 to 10 p.m.
- Romblon: Monday 2 to 4 a.m.
- Oriental Mindoro: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
